English Abi 25 ‚on the move‘ to Baden-Baden
Mrs Brum’s and Mrs Reuß-Bußmann’s Advaned English Courses, accompanied by Mrs Hirsch, braved the stress of exams, an upcoming „Kommunikationsprüfung“ and a public transport strike to travel together to Baden-Baden to see the American Drama Group’s production of ‚On the Move‘. This was the second performance by the drama group after the Premiere the day before in Freiburg. Of the 8 short stories, ‚Exterior Paint‘ by Kit de Waal, ‚The Thing Around Your Neck‘ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, ‚The Soldier’s Tale‘ by Neel Mukherjee, ‚Loose Change‘ by Andrea Levy and ‚Green‘ by Sefi Atta were performed. As Artistic Director Paul Stebbings explained in the artists‘ talk that followed, which was also attended by the five London-based actors, this selection was largely driven by royalties. However, both the performance and the discussion demonstrated how relevant this year’s „Schwerpunktthema“ of ‚Migration and Cross-Cultural Encounters‘ is to our contemporary society. At the same time, the production was able to visualise and bring to life the individual migration stories of the main characters and, in some aspects, to clarify and illustrate connections. Against the fantastic backdrop of the Neorokoko theatre and the comfortable box seats, the visit to the theatre may also have helped to allay some of the students‘ fears about the upcoming exams. We wish them all the best for next week’s Kommunikationsprüfung and good luck! You can do it!
