“A dive into American politics“: Die KS1 und KS2 am Deutsch-Amerikanischen Institut in Heidelberg
On the 4th of November, three English courses from the KS1 and KS2 visited the German-American Institute (DAI) in Heidelberg with their teachers Ms. Susur, Ms. Bertram and Ms. Yenice. This visit was organized due to the American elections on the following Tuesday, November 5th. First, Dr. Sergio Mukherjee from the DAI, who led the workshop, introduced us to the importance of political participation and culture in the United States. Our task was to present and collect various factors that shape one’s political attitude, such as social media, friends or family. He also focused on the two presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, mainly on their positions on various political issues such as immigration policy and economy. In general, he gave us students an insight into various interesting background information on presidential elections in the USA, including the electoral system, in which electors (538 electors in total) represent the voters of each state. Their votes decide who will ultimately win the presidential election. It was a great pleasure participating in this workshop. Thank you, Dr. Mukherjee!
Here are some impressions from the workshop! Enjoy!
